Trothe Limited Grenache 2021

This Grenache, a first for Trothe, is a wonderfully powerful bottling. Smoky violets give way to subtle raspberry, mountain lavender and smoked cinnamon aromas. The palate balances fleshy red berries and wild herbs with pine tar, smoked sea salt, and lengthy eucalyptus character to finish this distinctive Rhône varietal, one of Washington's most prominent wine grapes. The wine's power will mellow just a touch with age.

The 2021 Grenache Limited is all Grenache that was aged 16 months in concrete. It's a ruby/plum-hued 2021 that offers interesting aromatics of spiced red and black fruits, peppery herbs, and assorted meaty nuances that turn more floral and spicier with time in the glass. Downright pretty and perfumed on the nose, this beauty hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness that carries fine tannins, a seamless, elegant mouthfeel, and a great finish. It's a stunningly perfumed, complex, balanced Grenache that I'd be thrilled to drink any time over the coming decade.
