The land of castles and rivers, Germany is the unquestioned king of Riesling. Whether it be a crisp and steely Kabinet from the Mosel, a tropical fruit lades Spatlese from the Rhine a floral and fruity Auslese from the Pfalz or a decadent and intense Eiswein or Trokenbeerenause made from the raisins of Gewurztraminer or Muller Thurgau, the white wines of Germany rival the best in the world. However, don’t forget the other wines as well. Stylish roses, spiced wines for the holidays and perhaps the most underappreciated wine of all, Pinot Noir from just over the river from Alsace all deserve a place in the meals and cellars of true wine explorers.
