Trothe Limited Mourvedre 2022

The 2022 Limited Mourvèdre was fermented in concrete with 7% whole clusters and matured for 16 months in one new, 400-liter French oak barrel. It has open-knit, continually unfurling scents of blackcurrant, blueberry, bitter chocolate, aniseed, floral perfume and botanical undertones. The full-bodied palate features concentrated, iron-laced flavors and Goldilocks ripeness. It’s structured by soft, powdery tannins and fireworks of fresh acidity and has a long, latent finish. It should be long lived in the cellar. Just 40 cases were made, and they will be released in September of 2025.

With only 50 cases or so made, the 2022 Mourvedre Limited is a highlight of whichever variety is showing spectacularly well that vintage. Ripe but not overtly decadent, it offers an intensity of color and tannin structure with light blue fruit character, white pepper, rose petal, and enduring earthiness, balanced in medium-bodied weight.
