Portugal is not a large country, but it swings a big stick in terms of wine history and heritage. Home to some of the most famous of all dessert wines, Port and Madeira, it is also home to a whole range of fantastic value red and white table wines. Vinho Verde was once thought of as only a crisp and slightly sparkling white, but now an equally effervescent Rose can be found with this name. The famous Port houses of the Douro Valley are all producing stunning and age worthy reds from grapes such as Touriga Nacional, Tinto Roriz and Tinta Barroca.
