Pinot Noir was planted in the Columbia Valley many years ago with mixed results. Those planted in the cooler reaches of the Walla Walla Valley in the Blue Mountains and the Columbia Gorge being the exceptions to the rule. Plantings in Western Washington in the Puget Sound appellation, near Woodinville and on Hood Canal also show great promise.
