Even though many think of South Africa as being a 'new world' wine region, it has been documented that Chenin Blanc has been planted here longer than Cabernet Sauvignon has been planted in Bordeaux. Truly South Africa's premier white wine, it was once commonly referred to as 'Steen'. Now, one can expect to see it not only be bottled by the name of the grape as the rest of the world knows it, but to be in styles as varied as crisp and bright, to wild yeast fermentations and full barrel aging.
