Austrian Wines

While often thought of in the same vein as Germany, the wines of Austria are in reality very different indeed. Gruner Veltliner is without question the most famous of all Austrian wines and when first tasting it, often folks assume it is a Loire Valley white from France or a crisp Italian white from Alto Adige. The Rieslings From Kremstal and Kamptal often have a decidedly Alsatian style about them. Blaufrankisch and Zweigelt produce delicious, medium bodied reds that in many ways resemble the fine Cru wines from Beaujolais. They pair beautifully with game, poultry and cured meats.
